Babel, R.F. Kuang
Dhruv: 7/10
- As a listening experience at 3x, fun book
- Liked the characters and their development
- The lessons portrayed I don’t agree with
Elton: 8.75/10
- Generally enjoyable, not a difficult read
- Liked the aspects of linguistics and sociology? Anthropology? Yeah, Kuang is clearly one smart cookie
- She wants to leave you with an open-ended question on the nature of revolution
- Sometimes the knowledge aspects are heavy handed but I’d recommend to everyone
Tony: 7/10
- Beginning was slow and boring, too much development, too much setup
- It does pay off by the end
- Last bit was enjoyable, story driven action
- Ending thematically made sense but was unsatisfying, cop-out-ish
- Felt like it betrayed the implied message
- Would check out all eighty poppy war books
Jason: 8.5/10
- Very fun read throughout, good dialogue and exposition
- Enjoyed the footnote driven blurbs both story and knowledge
- Not as heavy handed as I thought it would be
- Would prefer if she took more of a stand at the end
